In an opening week filled with explosive offensive performances, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ effort was deemed the best.
Rodgers was named the NFC offensive player of the week by the league on Wednesday after he completed 27 of 35 passes (77.1 percent) for 312 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a 132.1 passer rating in the Packers’ 42-34 win over New Orleans.
In the first quarter, Rodgers completed 14 of 15 passes (93.3 percent) for 188 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a perfect 158.3 passer rating and became just the second player in NFL history to throw three touchdown passes in the first quarter of a season opener, joining Buffalo’s Jack Kemp, who did it in 1964.
"I enjoy that. I really do. It’s a great honor,” said Rodgers, who has now won the award three times after winning twice last season. “There were a lot of big numbers. Some people were thinking that the play might be a little sloppy starting the season out, but I think the NFL’s right where it needs to be and the offense has really put up some numbers."
Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher won the defensive award and San Francisco returner Ted Ginn Jr. won the special teams award.
Rodgers beat out Chicago running back Matt Forte (90 yards receiving, 68 yards rushing, one touchdown), Washington quarterback Rex Grossman (21 of 34 for 305 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and a 110.5 passer rating), Arizona quarterback Kevin Colb (18 of 27 for 309 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 130.0 passer rating), Philadelphia running back LeSean McCoy (122 yards rushing, two touchdowns), Carolina quarterback Cam Newton (24 of 37 for 422 yards with two touchdowns and one interception), Carolina wide receiver Steve Smith (eight catches for 178 yards and two touchdowns) and Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford (24 of 33 for 305 yards with three touchdowns and one interception for a 118.9 rating).
do we know where to find the pictures they showed during Thursday's game, like the one posted of him holding the Lombardi trophy? I've been looking everywhere and can't find them. Aaron + beard + jersey = my favorite.
